Kamal Haasan’s dream project ‘Marudhanayagam’ was launched in a never before never again style in 1997 with Queen Elizabeth as the chief guest. The grand event held at the MGR Film City premises in Chennai was attended by luminaries such as the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, Superstar Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Karthik and Amrish Puri among others.

The epic film budgeted at Rs. 100 Crores then which will be around Rs. 500 Crores today was stopped due to budget constraints after close to a month of shooting. Kamal has tried several times to revive the project in vain. Currently he is in an altogether different zone after the tremendous success of ‘Vikram’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. His upcoming films such as ‘Indian 2’, ‘KH 233’ directed by H. Vinoth and ‘KH 234’ directed by Mani Ratnam are expected to do business in excess of Rs. 500 Crores.

Good news is coming from the Kamal Haasan camp that he is working fervently to once again revive ‘Marudhanayagam’ and has already initiated talks with Indian as well as international production houses. Due to age constraints the Ulaganayagan will not be playing the lead role and has instead opted for Chiyaan Vikram to replace him. We already broke the news of Kamal and Vikram in talks for the film much earlier to you. Read : Vikram replaces Kamal Haasan in mega dream project?.

The news that Kamal will soon realize his big dream after 36 years will surely bring cheer not only to his fans but also to movie lovers. Chiyaan Vikram’s next release is Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ on April 28th this year. His much anticipated ‘Thangalaan’ directed by Pa. Ranjith will also hit the screens later this year.
