Lokesh Kanagaraj made his directorial debut in 2017 with the movie ‘Managaram’ starring Sandeep Kishan and Sri which was well received by critics and fans. His sophomore project ‘Kaithi’ starring Karthi took him to the next level becoming a blockbuster hit as well as gaining critical praise and propelled him to one of the leading directors in Tamil cinema.
Thalapathy Vijay then sprung a surprise by choosing him as the director of his 64th film ‘Master’ which had Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi as the scene stealing antagonist. Lokesh then realised his childhood dream of directing Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan in ‘Vikram’ and that film costarring Vijay Sethupathi and Fahaadh Faasil went on to become the second highest grosser ever in Tamil cinema history.
In less than six years since his debut, Lokesh Kanagaraj is today one of the most wanted directors in Indian cinema especially due to his ability to direct multistarrers and giving every star and superstar his due screenspace and impact on screen.
